THINGS TO DO: Celebrate Waitangi Day at Westfield Helensvale

Westfield Coomera in partnership with the Pacific Arts & Cultural Heritage will be celebrating Waitangi Day this weekend, on both Saturday, 2nd February and Sunday, 3rd February with a traditional Powhiri and welcome to country, live music, entertainment, food sampling with traditional New Zealand lollies and cakes, kids activities and storytelling. 

Everyone is invited to a traditional Powhiri and welcome to country.

Saturday, 2nd February from 10 AM – 10:45 AM 

A guided tour will take you back in time as you follow their journey through the Polynesian Islands and see traditional cultural artefacts that will be on display.

Saturday, 2nd February at 1 PM (The Dining Precinct), 2:30 PM (Centre Court)
Sunday, 3rd February at 1 PM (The Dining Precinct), 2:30 PM (Centre Court)

 

Traditional hangi tastings in the grassed area of the Dining Precinct (places are limited and bookings essential).

Saturday, 2nd February from 2 PM – 2:30 PM
Sunday, 3rd February from 12 PM – 12:30 PM; 2 PM – 2:30 PM

Kids cultural face painting will be available so make sure you bring your little ones down.

Kids Poi making workshop:

Poi is a form of dance where weights on the ends of tethers are swung through rhythmical patterns. Bring your little ones down toour kids craft zone and let them learn the art of Poi Making and then they can take their very own Poi’s home with them.

Both Saturday, 2nd February & Sunday, 3rd February from 12 PM – 2 PM

Bring your little ones to our lovely storytelling zone and let them hear traditional Maori stories.

Both Saturday, 2nd February & Sunday, 3rd February from 2 PM – 4 PM
