A beautifully restored historic site in Brisbane’s Auchenflower is now being brought back to life thanks to Queensland early learning and childcare operators, Little Locals.
Inside, the building still retains its original character. But instead of the pews that once filled the room, you’ll find a trampoline, water feature and a 15-metre mega slide that is sure to excite even the most thrill-seeking children.
The grounds have been carefully planned to bring out the Dora the Explorer in every child. Painted murals of the surrounding Mt Coot-tha region feature on walls that have been hand-painted with greenery and wildlife, highlighting the commitment to the local environment and nature play education program.
Family-owned and operated, the newest Auchenflower Centre is the sixth edition of the Little Locals early learning group.
Their education philosophy centres around a commitment to the environment and sustainability education. They are proud to be a carbon-neutral centre, meaning that they have pledged to offset all emissions and will subsequently have no net climate change impact.
Their dedication to environmental education can be seen in other initiatives, such as bringing in items that would normally be considered household waste and repurposing them for arts and crafts. There will be a veggie patch where the children will be able to consume the produce they grow. This green program will help tie into the ‘life cycle’ curriculum, along with a strong emphasis on recycling, as they endeavour to become a paperless facility.
Little Locals Early Learning Brisbane is set to open on the 9th of November 2020, and is located at 5 Wienholt St, Auchenflower QLD 4066.
