Meet the Principal – King’s Christian College

King’s Christian College is a modern school with traditional, proven Christian values. We meet Pimpama Campus Principal Mr Russell Meyers to find out more about this vibrant school.

Tell us about King’s Christian College?

King’s Christian College is set on two Gold Coast campuses: Reedy Creek that opened in 1980 which is home to childcare (from age 2½) and Prep to Year 12; and Pimpama campus that opened in 2015 which has childcare and primary school. High school at Pimpama starts in 2019.

We are a Christian school, where all staff are church-going Christians, and the majority of families are too.

What is the vision of the school?

Our Mission Statement is “Educating students in Christian leadership for tomorrow’s generation”.

We focus heavily on character development. There is a saying that ‘Your qualifications will get you the job, but it is your character and attitude that will determine if you succeed’. In every classroom, you will see a set of foundational values. These are the values that drive everything we do in the school. Our goal is to produce graduates who provide leadership through their character in whatever area of life they are involved in.

We aim to complement the role of parents, by providing a school environment that is safe, considerate and encouraging. We actively encourage each student to reach their potential, and to grow into the person God desires of him/her.

Why do you feel parents choose King’s Christian College?

Our academic results are above state and national averages, and we have a wealth of extracurricular activities that run before and after school.

We also have a fantastic pre-prep program that helps children prepare for the start of school and allow a smooth transition into Prep.

Both campuses also have playgroups that meet regularly, allowing parents and children to form friendships at an early age.

But mostly, the school has gained an enviable reputation for the atmosphere of care and support it offers. Our teachers have a passionate commitment to nurture these young people into becoming successful, confident adults who believe they can make a positive impact on the future of their given worlds.

What education programs do you offer?

The College provides a great diversity in education, with programs designed to inspire and challenge.

King’s Early Learning provides the foundations for learning. Children learn the social and emotional skills as well as early literacy and numeracy skills they will need when they start Prep.

Primary school is a fun, stimulating and a growing experience. While there is major focus on each student acquiring a sound knowledge of literacy and numeracy skills, students learn contemporary IT skills, grow in their knowledge of the arts and most importantly, grow in Christian character.

Project Based Learning is introduced to students in Year 5. This innovative approach allows students to learn and apply their knowledge to real life projects.

High school at King’s has a reputation for developing young adults of character. A variety of academic pathways is available for students – pathways that lead to university entrance, learning a trade or business entrepreneurship.

A full academic program, inter-school sports competition, weekly co-curricular activities, chapel, diverse performing arts and music programs and a host of other activities ensure that there is a rich learning environment for each student.
