What is Children’s Book Week?

Children’s Book Week is an annual celebration where schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children’s authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. You will often also see parades with students dressed as their favourite book character.

The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) host annual Book of the Year Awards showcasing some of Australia’s most creative people.

Please note: This program includes YouTube links. While we want you to have fun watching these videos, don’t forget to hit stop at the end of it. YouTube will automatically play other videos that may not be about this subject and not suitable for you.
