About the festival

This extraordinary celebration of happiness was born of the drought. Farmers Russell and Jenny Jenner pivoted from Lucerne to sunflowers in 2021 because of water scarcity, then, with 300,000 glorious sunflowers blooming, they decided to share the joy.

Sunflowers are drought-hardy crops. The flowers can be sold as ornamentals, the kernels harvested as edibles and the plants ploughed back into the soil, pumping in potassium and other nutrients.

The Kalbar Sunflower Festival is an opportunity to visit this working sunflower farm in the picturesque Scenic Rim region.
