The annual Kalbar Sunflower Festival embraces all things sunflowers. Get up close and personal to more than 400,000 sunflowers, take a selfie, enjoy food and drinks, live entertainment, sunflower market stalls and wander through the 8-acre maze. There will also be free kids’ activities.
This year’s festival features a number of fun activities and events, with something for adults and children.
This extraordinary celebration of happiness was born of the drought. Farmers Russell and Jenny Jenner pivoted from Lucerne to sunflowers in 2021 because of water scarcity, then, with 300,000 glorious sunflowers blooming, they decided to share the joy.
Sunflowers are drought-hardy crops. The flowers can be sold as ornamentals, the kernels harvested as edibles and the plants ploughed back into the soil, pumping in potassium and other nutrients.
The Kalbar Sunflower Festival is an opportunity to visit this working sunflower farm in the picturesque Scenic Rim region.
