These numbers hold special significance in the history of the 1942 Kokoda Campaign; 96km is the exact length of the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. The time limit of 39 hours is in honour of the 39th Battalion\, who were the first troops to defend Australia along the Kokoda Track. \nOther distances includes 30km and 48km. \n \nEach team of 3-5 participants (with the help of their Support Crew) treks the 96km course along fire trails\, crossing creeks and climbing summits of over 4\,000m of vertical elevation.
