DESCRIPTION:The Woodford Folk Festival is held annually over six days and six nights\, from 27 December through to 1 January. More than 2\,000 local\, national and international\, artists\, musicians and presenters grace the stages of Woodfordia. \nThe festival begins each year with the iconic Opening Ceremony and closes with the spectacular showcase\, on New Year’s Day. This year will be the 38th Woodford Folk Festival and the 31st held at Woodfordia. \nIt is the largest gathering of artists and musicians in Australia. \nOver the festival\, Woodfordia is transformed into a village that hosts over 25\,000 daily patrons\, performers\, stallholders\, volunteers and organisers. \nThe festival programme features concerts\, dances\, street theatre\, writers’ panels\, film festival\, comedy sessions\, acoustic jams\, social dialogue and debate\, folk medicine\, an entire children’s festival\, an environmental programme featuring talks\, debates and films\, art and craft workshops\, circus performances and workshops\, late night cabarets\, parades and special events. \nThe festival streets are lined with restaurants\, cafes\, stalls\, bars\, street theatre and parades. In a true Aussie twist\, Santa will swap his sleigh for surf\, arriving by Surf Boat at approximately 5:30pm thanks to the skilled Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club (MSLSC) Boaties. \nFamilies are invited to line the shore and welcome Santa as he steps out of the surf with a sack full of sweet treats from CTC Australia for the kids. Santa will stay for photos\, high-fives and Christmas cheer before a spectacular fireworks display lights up the sky at 7:15pm\, launching his journey around the world. \nNow in its 61st year\, this free community tradition is proudly hosted by the volunteers of Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club and has become a much-loved part of Christmas on the Sunshine Coast for locals and visitors alike. \n
