Littlest learners are invited to join us for a short series of special activities on Thursday & Friday mornings. Free, bookings required

Our littlest learners and their carers are invited to join us for a short series of special activities. From getting hands-on with real museum objects and specimens, to exploring our galleries and collections through songs, stories and role-play, this program is designed to enhance children’s learning and development.

Little Learners sessions are held on the below dates from 10am to 10:30am. Please meet our Museum Educator at the activity location at 9:50am. Tickets to Little Learners sessions are required for all participating children and their carers. Babes in arms do not require a ticket. Please note, each session has a 40 person capacity.

Activities and Dates:

Thursday 5 May and Friday 6 May – Dinosaur Feet

Learn about the amazing footprints on display in Lost Creatures, read the story about how they were created, and make your own dinosaur footprints.

Location: Lost Creatures, Level 2.

Thursday 12 May and Friday 13 May – Sharing Shells

Join us for story time in Hibiscus Lounge, make a crab, and use your magnifying glass to get a close-up look at some real museum shell and crab specimens.

Location: Hibiscus Lounge, Level 2.

Thursday 19 May and Friday 20 May – Crocodile Rock

Learn about these amazing reptiles, join us for a story, make your own crocodile, and join in the dancing.

Location: Wild State, Level 4.

Thursday 26 May and Friday 27 May – Life Cycles: Butterflies

Learn about the life cycle of butterflies through reading, movement activities and investigation of specimens, then make your own fluttering butterfly.

Location: Foyer, Level 2.

Thursday 2 June and Friday 3 June – Cool Cassowaries

Learn about this amazing, giant, flightless rainforest-dwelling bird. Enjoy the Indigenous story of how the cassowary got its helmet, explore rainforest specimens, and join in some creative activities.

Location: Wild State, Level 4.

Thursday 9 June and Friday 10 June – Feeling Fishy

Make your own fish, join in the singing and dancing, and explore the ocean in Wild State.

Location: Wild State, Level 4.
