The first Olde English Fair was held in 1982 in the grounds of St George’s Anglican Church. Thorne Road and Victor Street were temporarily closed, train rides, horse and buggy rides, horse rides, chair’o’plane and a wave slippery slide all located on the road areas were all well patronised.
An Arts and Crafts Exhibition was held in the Church, with a pre-fair dinner opening on the Friday evening for those who wished to make early purchases.
Thousands of visitors attended and had a wonderful time with demonstrators, activities, costumes, morris dancers, may pole, singers, musicians.
Great home made cakes and sweets abounded, and there was food to meet all needs: ploughman’s lunch, hamburgers, sausage in a blanket, soft drinks.
Craft demonstrators were high on the agenda and many demonstrators made this an annual event.
Children were well catered for with games, rides and activities.
With the proceeds from those fairs, the building of the Alexandra Hills Church of the Resurrection was able to be undertaken
