Year 5 Immanuel student Tarryn Scamp is on a mission; a mission to educate her loved ones, school friends, teachers and anyone who will listen about the importance of awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
On Monday 1 November, Tarryn will cut her hair and donate it to Variety Australia which makes wigs for those who lose their hair to cancer. Tarryn has a fundraising page dedicated to raising money to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses who provide invaluable support and care to women and men experiencing breast cancer. From diagnosis right throughout treatment, McGrath Breast Care Nurses are available to help individuals and their families for free and with no referral.
“Tarryn is super excited, slightly nervous and energised by her project and is hoping people will be kind when she has no hair,” said mum, Naomi.
“We’ve organised for our volunteer hairdresser to cut Tarryn’s hair on Monday at Immanuel, which is where Tarryn goes to school. She’s raised $1,450 so far; we’re so proud of her.
“She will donate 45cm of hair and will be left with just a few centimetres. It’s all in aid of her best friend in Canberra’s Mum and she’ll be raising funds for the McGrath Foundation at the same time,” said Naomi.”
“A breast cancer diagnosis changes your life. We’ve had staff affected by this disease and the impact is felt through family and friends”, said Principal Colin Minke.
“The McGrath Breast Care Nurses bring families peace of mind through expert knowledge, personal care and compassion. This is a wonderful cause for Tarryn to donate attention and funds to,” said Colin.
