We’re here to help you get out and enjoy the winter sunshine on the Gold Coast this weekend. From farm fresh produce, wildlife tours, a free roller disco and a Big Night Out, there’s enough action happening to keep the whole family entertained this weekend. Food lovers rejoice!
Jump in your car and head towards the Scenic Rim for the Scenic Rim’s Farm Gate Trail. Mingle with Scenic Rim locals and learn about where your food comes from. Meet farmers, shop local and fill your Esky. This July event is set to be one of the largest of the trails to date; you’ll have access to 26 farm gates across the region. Get up close with farm animals at Tommerup’s Dairy Farm, eat ice cream made from camel milk at Summer Land Farm and indulge in a cheese platter at Towri Sheep Cheeses. Stop in at the Scenic Rim Farm Shop for locally-grown produce. The event runs on Sunday, July 31 from 9am to 3pm. Find out more by visiting Destination Scenic Rim.
Further afield, the Northern Rivers Harvest Food Trail is taking place on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31. This is a very special self-drive experience, allowing you and your kids to learn more about where your food is grown and the farming methods used to grow and/or produce it. Meet with farmers, producers, growers, distillers and chefs in this celebration of the Northern Rivers food and beverage industry. It’s Christmas in July
The Surfers Paradise Foreshore will transform into a flurry of free festive fun on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31. The City of Gold Coast’s Christmas in July event allows you to live out your wildest dreams with ice-skating by the beach under twinkling lights. There’s also a winter Christmas market where you’ll find trinkets for those near and dear. Get your gifts done and dusted. Other features of this festive feast include Christmas movies on the beach, decorating (and eating) gingerbread cookies and a pop-up igloo with churros and hot chocolate.
HOTA has it going on
From life-sized animals to fashion and fantasy, discover the biggest and best LEGO creations at Bricktionary: The Interactive LEGO brick Exhibition. Just like Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught’s book The Bricktionary: The Ultimate A-Z of LEGO this exhibition is built to inspire your imagination. There are six interactive build zones and more than 150 models from the book.
While you’re visting HOTA, check out the HOTA Collects exhibition in Galleries 2, 3 and 4. This is a showcase of more than 100 works from HOTA collection and reflects key developments in Australian art over the past 50 years. It includes abstract, feminist art, Indigenous art, ceramics and 21st century photography.
You’ll also find Postcards from the Edge in the Children’s Gallery. Artist Martin Edge’s colourful paintings are brought to life in an inclusive space for fun and adventure. This is a free exhibition.
Go wild
See Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary as you’ve never seen it before — after dark! The Currumbin Wildlife Twilight Tour takes you behind the scenes and through the Sanctuary. Get up close to the nocturnal residents, such as the cheeky Tasmanian Devils who are most active after dark. Have fun spotting crocodiles, koalas and kangaroos. You’ll also learn more about the history of the Gold Coast’s First Nations people with a spectacular light display. This event is on every Friday and Saturday night throughout July and until the end of August.
Sporting and leisure events
Commencing this Friday, July 29 from 9am is the A&H Stroller Group. If you’ve got littlies one and you want to get outdoors for some easy exercise, this is the group for you! Join other mums and boost your health, fitness and overall wellbeing. It’s suitable for all fitness levels and children of all ages are welcome. Meet at the Rotary Park, Burleigh Heads.
From 9am to 1pm on Saturday, July 30, head to the Great Lawn at the Broadwater Parklands for the Sportstacular Workshop. This is a free event for the kids to play games and get active. Perfect if you have a little one with energy to burn.
Head to Flagstone on Saturday, July 30 for the Saturdaze Big Night Out. This is a free community event with more than 150 local car enthusiasts showcasing their vehicles. See cars, trucks, four-wheel drives and motorcycles from various generations. It’s fun for the whole family, with amusement rides and live entertainment.
If you’re looking for something to do on Sunday, head to the Gold Coast Suns versus West Coast Eagles AFL match at Metricon Stadium. Gates open at 11:30am and the first bounce is at 1:10pm. Tickets are still available and you can grab yours via Ticketek.
