NEWS: Youth Dance Teams put Sunshine Coast on the map

Sunshine Coast teenagers competed for the first time at an International Latin Dance Competition held at the Brisbane Convention Centre, November 25, placing an impressive second and third. 

Let’s Dance Latin Dance Academy, based in Maroochydore CBD, sent two youth teams to the competition, a group choreography and a duet. 

Six youths aged 12 to 17, secured 2nd place with a rhythm popping Latin infused Puerto Rican hip hop routine, known to those in the Latin community as ‘Reggaeton’, whilst the Youth Mixed Latin Duet team placed 3rd place with their Salsa routine.

Amanda Ferdinand, Let’s Dance Latin studio owner said, “It was fantastic to see these kids embrace the Latin styles, we are so proud of them. They loved the excitement of the competition and are full of inspiration to learn more dance styles.”

“The quality of the artists at all levels was extremely high and it’s exciting to witness our Sunshine Coast kids being introduced to famous national and international artists.”

The World Salsa Solo Competition is a four-day event which attracts competitors world-wide to compete at all levels from Youth, Amateur, Semi-Pro, Professional and Masters in all styles of Latin dance.

Let’s Dance Latin have created history by being the only dance school that provides Latin dance for kids and the opportunity to be trained by instructor’s who are also world and national champions.

Let’s Dance Latin Dance Academy’s youth teams are already looking ahead to their next competition in May 2019, at the Australian Dance Cup on the Gold Coast. 

Let’s Dance Latin Dance Academy welcomes new students for competition and will be hosting Latin dance workshops over the school holidays for all age groups. Kids and teen classes will start up in the new year for those who want to have fun and learn about Latin dance and culture.
