5 family-friendly activities at this year’s Brisbane Festival you can’t miss

Brisbane Festival is surely one of the highlights of our river city’s cultural calendar. And this year there are LOADS of family-friendly activities for your tribe to enjoy.

Auntie’s Fiafia Night: 8 – 11 September

For some circus fun, Auntie’s Fiafia Night will be making a world premiere at Brisbane Festival 2021, inviting families to step inside, take your shoes off, give Auntie a hug and take a seat for a fiafia night.
Auntie’s Fiafia Night will offer a celebratory night of circus fun, Pacific song and dance with world-renowned Casus Circus. Get ready to ‘pati pati po’ the night away.

 

Sky Castle: 15 – 25 September

This magical dreamscape of inflatable arches is making its home at Northshore, Hamilton before floating down the river on Brisbane’s Art Boat.
This interactive installation will inspire joy and hope as they flow in and out through changing colours, light and music.

Families can explore this installation for free during the day. It is then a ticketed event at night as part of the cruise.
Once aboard Brisbane’s Art Boat, this wondrous floating art experience will travel between Northshore, Hamilton and South Bank, immersing audiences in a glowing world to experience the Brisbane River in a new light.

 

Babushka: Right to Party – 22 September

Award-winning group Babushka has cooked up its first ever show dedicated to kids aged five and over.

This feisty trio wants to break to break rules, sing killer tunes and show the next generation how to be rascals, radicals and ratbags. In a performance where School of Rock meets Beastie Boys and the Spice Girls, ratbags young and old are invited to this punk-rocking celebration of musical groundbreakers and game changers over the past 50 years, from The Ramones and Queen to Lizzo and P!nk. So, spike your mohawk and fight for your right to party!

 

Summer Play Factor (SPF): 21 – 23 September

Summer Play Factor

This playful, extravagant-sundae-of-a-circus show by Brisbane’s very own Flipside Circus makes its Brisbane premiere this September – just in time for summer.

Summer Play Factor (SPF) combines amazing circus skills, a live DJ and dance for all ages to groove along to outside in the sunshine.

Expect surfboard acrobatics, infectious choreography, ice-cream juggling and beach cricket in this tasty summer delight.

 

Sunsuper Riverfire: 25 September

Riverfire at Brisbane Festival 2021

All eyes will be on Brisbane’s skies with Sunsuper Riverfire making a dazzling return. A highlight of the Brisbane Festival program, the free, all-ages pyrotechnic spectacular will ignite the skyline and wrap up three incredible weeks of art, music and joy.

Sunsuper Riverfire will be choreographed to a specially curated playlist simulcast on Triple M with television partner Channel Nine exclusively broadcasting the popular event live, and can be viewed from hundreds of vantage points across the city.

More information will be available closer to the event, including vantage points, accessibility and Army and Air Force flying displays.
