Things to do with kids this weekend on the Sunshine Coast

Phew, school holidays are over and it’s nice to slip back into a daily routine once more. Even though the ‘big kids’ are back at school, there’s still plenty of winter action in store for families. Here are our favourite things to do with kids on the Sunshine Coast this weekend!

For those who like to play!

The return to school means the return of the playgroup. Hooray!  If you’ve got very little ones there is an unstructured Fun Friday Playgroup at Ben Bennett Park, Caloundra. This drop-in playgroup is held every Friday from 9am to 12pm. Dads, grandparents, mums, all welcome!

Can’t make the Friday session? The fabulous Sunshine Beach State School Bush Kindy has resumed and is being held every Wednesday at 8:45am to 10:15am. Enjoy fun nature craft activities, bush walks, storytelling and meet other children and families in the Sunshine Beach community.

Another drop-in play event, Kids World Adventure Playland and Café has started a weekly all abilities play session, catering for families and children who have additional needs. From 3-5pm every Thursday, the noise and lighting will be reduced for those with sensory needs. We love this!

For those who like adventures

Get set for some adventure on Saturday morning when the Wild Horse Mountain will become a hive of activity with the Max Adventure Race. There are various race options to suit all levels. One of the levels is a kids’ course for those aged five to 14 years. The kids course includes 1-2 kilometres of running, 2-4km of biking, and some basic map reading. With plenty of sunshine predicted, it’s the perfect weekend for it!

For those who like The Arts

For the kids that prefer to get crafty, APT10 Kids on Tour is currently on at Caloundra Regional Gallery. Explore and experience free hands-on art-making activities throughout July and August with this popular touring exhibition.

For those with older kids

There’s nothing to make you feel like the kids are growing up fast, than to realise a kids career expo is on your radar. For those that find themselves in this scary place, the 20th annual Sunshine Coast Careers Expo is on at Venue114 on July 19. This Careers Expo provides a unique opportunity to find everything related to education and employment, under one roof. Universities, education providers, TAFE, graduate employment, student support services, it’s a one-stop event for families stepping into the next phase of raising kids.
