Across the Sunshine Coast region you’ll find a whole host of events and activities to keep you and the kids busy… Here are our top picks for the weekend ahead.
Free fun for the kids
For the kids that prefer to get crafty, APT10 Kids on Tour is currently on at Caloundra Regional Gallery. Explore and experience free hands-on art-making activities throughout July and August with this popular touring exhibition. While you’re at the Gallery, explore the Kids Art Trail. Especially for kids, this trail encourages exploration of the artworks and themes. Kids look for clues, find art, solve puzzles and create your own artworks. Suitable for kids aged four to 12 years, the Art Trail is free and changes with each exhibition.
Head along to the Maleny or Beerwah libraries for Rhymetime on Friday, August 5 from 9:30am to 10am. These sessions are suitable for children from newborn to two years of age. Children discover more about the magical world of nursery rhymes and books. Meet other parents and babies for a fun session of singing, clapping and dancing. You’ll learn songs and action rhymes to nurture your baby’s pre-literacy, communication, language and social skills.
For those who like to play!
The return to school means the return of the playgroup. Hooray! If you’ve got very little ones there is an unstructured Fun Friday Playgroup at Ben Bennett Park, Caloundra. This drop-in playgroup is held every Friday from 9am to 12pm. Dads, grandparents, mums, all welcome!
Just want to get out and have some fun? The Y Caloundra has Casual Gym Play Sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays each week from 10am to 11am. Open to children walking to five years old, they can bounce, jump, crawl, climb and swing to their little hearts content with you by their side.
Can’t make a Friday session, head to Maroochy Botanical Gardens on Tuesday morning for the Wildlings Playgroup. Children can participate in an activity or project and join the Wildlings team for a song and story time. This nature-based playgroup is designed for kids from newborn to three years of age, but older siblings are welcome.
Family fun at the football
Round 21 of the 2022 NRL Telstra Premiership sees the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the New Zealand Warriors at the Sunshine Coast Stadium on Saturday, August 6. Also on Friday, August 5 at The Events Centre are two of Australia’s most respected singers, musicians and songwriters — Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley. They’re taking their guitars and songs on the road with the national Together Alone Tour. It’s the first time these two powerhouses have joined forces. They’ll take audiences on an intimate musical journey across their respective careers.
A tidal wave of music events will hit the Sunshine Coast with The Jynx House on Saturday, August 6. This all-ages event aims to innovate the party scene, with electro-infused live music coming direct to NightQuarter. Among the line-up is Aussie hip-hop and EDM musician Hooligan Hefs, Enschway, Jordan Brando, Sarah Wilkinson and Tay-G. All under-18s must be accompanied by an adult aged 25 years or older.
