BIG4 North Star Hastings Point

16 September 2015

Big 4 North Star blew me away with comfort, facilities and surprising luxury. Our family of six recently holidayed with another two families at Big 4 North Star and to say we loved it would be an understatement! And it was not just the people that made this one special.

Our family of six comfortably fit into the Tuscany Villa, the children delighted in the fact they had a bathroom adjoining each room, very important for when you are one of four girls!

The Villa included a main kitchen upstairs, which is perfect for family holidays, all the appliances you’d hope for, and a barbeque with a sink on the balcony overlooking Sammy’s Lagoon water park (more on that later). The Villa’s are 4 ½ star with a spa, king bed and a generous cheese platter awaiting us upon arrival.

As required on any family holiday, they also included a washing machine and dryer compactly located downstairs in one of the two living areas.

A TV in each room downstairs and one in the main lounge upstairs, meant that everyone could have some down time and watch a bit of television including a variety of Foxtel channels.

The fully air conditioned Villa’s overlooked the Sammy’s Lagoon. This is not just a simple holiday pool, but rather an incredible display of waterfall adorned playground merged with swimming pool and waterslides that is every child’s dream come true. Whilst bright, colourful and inviting for children the water area was accommodating for adults to supervise appropriately (read: also play and have fun)! There were ample reclining deck chairs shaded by established trees to kick back and have a rest.

Big 4 North Star also has an amazing free kid’s program. Neptune’s Castle is FILLED and I mean filled with crazy-fun activities for kids and adults alike (a few parents were seen hiding in the ball pit). Some of the many kids activities available include card making, craft workshops, roller races (similar to go-karts), open air movie nights, discos and a full indoor play centre complete with adult sized ball pit. The indoor play centre boasts fully supervised age group sessions, giving parents a bit of a break and the kids a great run around.

This amazing holiday destination also has tennis courts, a games room, pool tables and a shaded, fully fenced outdoor playground.

The adults do not miss out, with the Seascape Leisure Centre featuring a 25m lap pool, sauna, gym, three spas, hair and beauty salon and massage services.

As if all of this was not enough! Big 4 North Star have iced the cake with Ripples, a licensed restaurant that spreads out an all you can eat buffet breakfast at a very reasonable price. The buffet breakfast included all the anticipated options (various cereals, fruit, toast & spreads, everything that should be on a big brekky plate) as well as some nice surprises such as the spicy baked beans, bubble and squeak, and the grilled Turkish breads with tomato and cheese. Most importantly there were pancakes and high-grade maple syrup. The barista knew the game and was able to produce quality coffees despite the busy restaurant. Ripples also hosted a Mexican themed pop-up kitchen at the Open Air movie night, with plenty of seating, good food and stars above it was a delightful night!

From the moment we arrived to the late check out, we felt a good sense of security. The boom gates and private low-speed roads felt like a safe place for a family to walk through. There were lots of other holidaymakers setting up caravans and tents or settling into the well maintained bungalows throughout the resort. The centrally located shared facilities for campers were large, very clean and cleverly positioned near the games room and outdoor playground to let parents get the hard tasks out of the way in peace. We also noticed Big 4 North Star have a caravan valet service so that it won’t take six to eight attempts and a replacement palm tree to position your home away from home.

Nestled close to Hastings Point, Big 4 North Star is a definite winner in my books and I would not hesitate to recommend it as a fabulous complete family holiday destination!

Big 4 North Star is conveniently located 15 minutes south of the Coolangatta Airport on Hastings Point, just north of the inlet. Although the holiday park was a genuine family destination within itself, there is an entire coast to explore laden with white sand beaches and breath taking views. The inlet (3 minutes walk south of the main entrance and shop) is home to sheltered swimming areas, stand-up paddleboard or kayak hire, and easy fishing near the bridge.

It was the beautiful smiles on my girls’ faces while they explored, total beams of joy as they discovered something new or skipped along the deck that won me over – this was possibly one of the best holidays we’ve ever had.

Thank you Big 4 North Star for not only making a holiday, but memories that will never be forgotten and forever cherished.

I fully agree that the Big4 North Star is a family holiday destination providing "memories that will never be forgotten and forever cherished". Earlier this year, my husband and I spent 2 weeks on a powered ensuite site at the North Star. While there, we saw the fantastic range of offerings for families and kids, and decided to return for the school holidays with our grandsons (7 & 5). This time, we did not bring the van or indulge ourselves in the spa and dining at Ripples. Rather, we stayed in a Star Villa and focussed on making the most of the activities for families and kids. We took bikes and scooters for the boys and they partook in and enjoyed Sammy's Lagoon, Neptune's Castle, movies in the loft, and the list goes on. One additional facility and activity at the North Star I would like to draw attention to (and recommend), is the marine education resource centre at which Founder and North Star resident, Ted Brambleby, provides a insightful view of our marine and coastal environments. Something we found to be the perfect adjunct to our seaside holiday. When asked, our grandsons gave the park and their holiday 1000 out of 10, and are already planning their next visit.
