We are spoilt for choice when it comes to stunning scenery in our region. We have tried, however, to pick just 5 of the best places for a picnic on the Sunshine Coast. Here are our recommendations:

La Balsa Park, Buddina

Set opposite the Mooloolaba marina, you can enjoy a picnic on the shaded grass while watching a wonderful array of water craft chugging idly by. There are toilet facilities, BBQ stations and a great park nearby, and you can burn off your lunch with a walk round Point Cartwright.

Picnic Point Esplanade, Maroochydore

The name says it all. A haven for picnic goers and fisherman enjoying the tranquillity on the banks of the Maroochy River. Flanked by parks and a short walk to Chambers Island, it’s easy to relax away a day here. Watch out for the big pelicans who might want to share your picnic goodies!

Emu Mountain, Tritonia Drive, Coolum Beach

A smaller and easier climb than its neighbour, Mount Coolum, the views from the top of Emu Mountain are still stunning. And the picnic bag will be much lighter on the way down…

Tooway Creek, Moffat Beach

Enjoy a paddle while the sausages sizzle on one of the nearby BBQ stations or find a quieter picnic spot along the great stretch of beach. A short stroll from the Dicky Beach Surf Club for some after-picnic drinks.

Mary Cairncross Park

A big expanse of lawn shaded by the trees, in front of a massive playground, and next to a café serving great coffee and cakes makes this a winning picnic destination for every member of the family. You can enjoy one of the walking tracks in the Scenic Reserve after lunch, and don’t leave without taking in the wonderful view from across the road.

Which picnic spots would you add to the list?
