THINGS TO DO: Sensory Santa

05 November 2018

Have you always wanted to take your Kids to see Santa but have been worried about how they might react?

For many kids with sensory challenges, a visit to see Santa is too overwhelming. Waiting in line with crowds, the pressure
of time and the noise of people walking around can be too much for many special needs children.

This year, the annual photo with Santa will be less stressful for families with special needs children, thanks to an initiative running at Kawana Shoppingworld.

The Sensory Santa sessions are purposely designed for those with sensitive needs. They allow children a one-on-one 15-minute session with Santa, outside of core centre trading hours, with lights dimmed and music turned down to prevent a sensory overload. Santa’s helpers are also provided with the child’s name and any special needs prior to each family’s arrival to ensure that any special requests are met.
The centre has been running the initiative since 2016 and it’s been overwhelmingly popular with local families.

BOOKINGS: Sensory Santa will be offered on selected dates in November and December throughout
the Christmas season. Bookings can be made by calling 07 5444 1944. kawanashoppingworld.com.au

What to expect at Sensory Santa:

  • Lights dimmed
  • Music turned down
  • Done outside core trading
hours there’s no crowds
  • One-on-one 15-minute
session with Santa
