Stockland Aura’s community celebrated the opening of Space Park, the 20th park in the community, on Saturday, 5 August, with an afternoon of family fun and ‘out of this world’ adventures for local residents.
Located on McKinlay Crescent, Nirimba, the much-anticipated park was designed to ignite a child’s spirit of adventure with a rocket ship tower, moon-shaped shade sails, climbable crater, control panels, inspirational space quotes in the pavement and star lights in the ceiling panels of the picnic shelter.

Stockland Aura Senior Development Manager Genaea Keith said she was delighted with the community response, given parks and recreational spaces hold a special place in Stockland’s vision when creating thriving communities.
“These communal spaces are an essential part of creating thriving communities as we know they enhance the lives of residents and visitors, offering a multitude of recreational options for all ages to enjoy,” said Ms Keith.
“In the past two decades we have created seven communities across the Sunshine Coast, providing over 20,000 homes for local families and this vast experience has shown us that providing spaces where locals can congregate are vital to a community’s sense of wellbeing.
“It’s not only about providing an engaging space for kids to use their imaginations and benefit from physical, outdoor activity but also providing seating and shaded areas where parents and carers can relax, build friendships and feel connected to their local community.
“Our recently released Stockland Liveability Survey reported that 85 per cent of residents said Aura met or exceeded their expectations, with the number of parks and sense of community scoring highly in their sense of satisfaction.”

Space Park’s designer, Kate Heise-Seabrook from Urban Play, who partnered with Stockland and Place Design Group to create the playground, said the team took inspiration from space exploration and the moon landing to design a park filled with rich play opportunities that allowed visitors of all ages to embark on an imaginative adventure.
“Space Park is a testament to the power of play and imagination,” said Ms. Heise-Seabrook.
“With the bike circuit guiding them through fun facts about space, we wanted to create an environment where children’s curiosity soars, with play pieces, stories, and visual stimuli that captivate and inspire.
“Perhaps one day, these young adventurers will transform their dreams into reality.”
Space Park also includes three open kick-around areas, along with additional smaller grassed areas and seating under leafy, shaded trees.
It is the 20th addition to the impressive selection of Aura parks and playgrounds following the recent opening of Whale Park, located on the corner of Lady Elliot Street and Great Keppel Way, Banya, and firm favourites including Dino Park and Island Park.
Across the Sunshine Coast region, Stockland has delivered more than 50 parks and playgrounds, dog parks, walkable waterfronts and sports parks.
