THINGS TO DO: Buskers by the Creek

12 October 2018

Australia's LARGEST busking festival 'Buskers by the Creek' is set to bring carnivale to the Gold Coast Saturday 13 to Sunday 14 October.

All of the world's best kept singers, musicians and performers will be brought into the spotlight for the fifth annual event. Winders Park in Currumbin and will see more than 300 Australian and international buskers perform.
Buskers by the Creek is a free, family and dog friendly event that boasts a host of international food options, a dedicated bar serving the likes of Stone & Wood, Chandon S and Sailor Jerry, as well as a Karma Kid's Zone. The event promises to create a tempo de festa carnivale vibe, complete with entertaining Brazilian acts, roaming dancers, sequins and the Brazilian bling the party nation is famous for.

Five years ago, local Gold Coast entrepreneur Cindy Jensen put on a free event for her Currumbin community, not knowing how much attention it would attract. Now, proudly the founder and event director of Australia’s largest busking festival, Buskers by The Creek Cindy is dedicated to giving back to her local Currumbin community.

The renowned community and cultural event attracts more than 300 buskers each year with more than 20,000 Gold Coast locals and visitors gathering by the creek over two days for an unforgettable weekend of live entertainment.

“I love the great outdoors of my hometown and I thought transforming Currumbin’s creek-scape into a center stage would be a way to put a spotlight on both hidden talents and our local gem,” says Ms Jensen.

“World class professional performers make up a high percentage of the Buskers by the Creek line-up, but it also showcases undiscovered talent and provides an opportunity for people just starting out in their career to perform at a large scale event.”

“It’s also about bringing together the local and wider community for a fun, free family-friendly event.”

This year’s event will see a total of 16 stages sprawled through the creekside park, fostering a carnivale atmosphere with a Brazilian theme complete with entertaining Brazilian acts alongside dazzling roaming dancers, sequins and Brazilian bling.

The atmosphere will be an electric festival vibe fit for the whole family, with all music preferences accommodated for with everything from punk to country, folk to rock set to perform alongside musicians, contortionists and everything in between.
