THINGS TO DO: Tumble into after-school activities with the kids

11 February 2018

With the New Year in full swing, families are seeking innovative ways to stay fit, healthy and remain in a positive headspace as the year progresses. One of the biggest challenges to committing to a new fitness or lifestyle regime is finding the time to do so, especially in the midst of organising a family’s busy schedule. Why not kick your own daily health and fitness goals at the same place the kids enjoy their after-school activities?

The team at Just Acrobatics and CircStudios have designed their studio as a fitness location for both parents and children (as young as two years of age). So, after the kids are finished tumbling and flipping in the acrobatics area, you can stretch and strengthen your body at one of the AntiGravity Aerial Yoga classes upstairs.

CircStudios and Just Acrobatics co-director, and parent of two Darren Smith believes the convenience of fitness options for everyone in the family, in the one location, is invaluable.

“It’s easy for families to get bogged down in the logistics of a busy after-school activities schedule.”

“Catering to parents and children in the same space means everyone in the family gets to try something new and exciting,” said Darren.

With the benefits of normal yoga plus a few more, the AntiGravity Aerial Yoga is the latest fitness craze with improved flexibility, better focus, stress relief and stronger muscles.

“AntiGravity Aerial Yoga is a workout like no other involving a combination of traditional yoga poses and pilates and TRX all while suspended in a hammock,” said Darren.

Darren said that due to the suspended nature and included inversions during AntiGravity Aerial Yoga, the benefits of spinal traction increase vertebrae flexibility, which in turn relieves back pain and enhances circulation.

“All parts of the body are forced to move and stretch, relieving tension in the lower back, neck,
arms and legs while toning, strengthening and lengthening muscles.”

Darren also stated that aerial yoga is great for combatting stress due to ‘its meditative state that clears the mind’, which means you will leave your aerial yoga class in a better frame of mind to deal with life’s challenges.

You can also focus on your own practice knowing the kids have had a blast burning off extra energy at Just Acrobatics, through circus arts that include tumbling and aerial silks and aerial hoops.

For those not familiar with acrobatics, it’s known for assisting children in their confidence, self-esteem and self-discipline while developing their physical, personal and social skills.

With plenty of classes scheduled in the important post-school pre-dinner time slot, there has never been a better time to get fit and reduce your stress levels and keep the kids content with an after-school activity they will love.
