Many parents have a love-hate relationship with school holidays on the Sunshine Coast. We love the holiday aspect, but we hate having to think of enough ideas to keep the kids entertained. That and trying not to drain the bank balance by forking out money for numerous school holiday activities.
The good news is that Sunshine Coast Libraries, known for saving the sanity of many parents over years of school holidays, are back again with loads of free school holiday activities. Not only are the activities free, but they also cater for a range of age groups and interests.
Meet the author of Mad Magpie Gregg Dreise at the Mad Magpie story seat for a morning of stories, games and fun or come to your local library where your little bookworm can borrow some books and get stuck in over the holidays.
Your little tech head can learn to code and battle an ezRobot at a Battle Bots workshop (ages 10+) or code a robot mouse to be able to run a maze and find cheese in the Robot Mouse workshop (6+). When they come home, they’ll be inspired and itching to continue. Here are some great programs for teaching kids to code.
Sunshine Coast Libraries have outdone themselves with the number of brilliant creative workshops for kids these school holidays. Check out this brilliant list of workshops:
Perfect for all ages is the Crazy Zoo Magic Show. Come dressed as your favourite animal and enjoy non-stop laughter and fun.
Once the workshop is over, what will you do at home? Or, how will you kerb boredom on a road trip? The best way to kerb the ‘I’m bored’ dilemma is to introduce some new toys. But forget about buying new toys; you can loan them through Sunshine Coast Library’s toy library service. There is a great range of toys for children aged six months to 12 years. All you need is your library card and, you can borrow two toys for free. Visit here for locations and times.
Lastly, don’t forget to check out Sunshine Coast Libraries eResources, engaging activities for kids to enjoy at home during the school holidays, all you need is your library card number to access.
