Check in was quick and easy. The staff are genuinely friendly and offered to go above and beyond for our family. It was our first time staying at voco Gold Coast and I didn’t feel rushed at reception when I was asking questions. Reception is also open 24 hours a day, so if you need anything during your stay, they are more than happy to help. The reception area is beautiful with a few different areas to sit and relax while you wait or to simply read a book in a welcoming space.
The lovely gentleman at reception told me about the 300,00 honey bees on site, along with six bee hives. There is honey sold at voco, and it is all made on-site. All the desserts and pastries are made in-house by Grant the pastry chef. We were presented with some lavender and honey shortbread at check-in and it was delicious enjoyed by the whole family!
It’s always exciting seeing our rooms for the first time and they certainly didn’t disappoint! We were on the 19th floor in inter connecting rooms. The inter connecting rooms are fantastic for families. With three primary school aged children, it was nice to have some alone time, knowing they were on the other side of the wall.
This was the first time we had stayed in inter connecting rooms, and the great thing we found about each room was the separate bathrooms, and small kitchenette area with fridge, built in wardrobes, along with flat screen TV’s and full length mirror. The layout of the rooms was great for the kids, so they had room to hang out and play and really utilise the floor space.
The suite my husband and I were in had a lounge, round table with chair so you can work on a laptop if need be, a huge flat screen TV hung on the wall with a shelf directly underneath to put your belonging on and a built in wardrobe with more than enough storage space! The bedside table had power points and a usb cable to charge your phone or iPad – this is definitely something every suite should have. Our most favourite thing in the room was the super comfortable king sized bed, which made for a deep, great night’s sleep.
The water from the taps in the rooms is filtered which fo a family like ours, who are used to drinking filtered water was great. Some extras in both rooms included, an iron and ironing board, a safe, spare blanket, complimentary slippers and in the main suite, two terry towelling robes.
We had a view of the Hinterland which was absolutely beautiful at sunset and the next morning at sunrise.
voco Gold Coast is also big on sustainability which we loved! To save paper, all the information you need is digital and displayed on the televisions in the rooms and of course the wonderful staff are only a phone call away. They also reduce their carbon footprint by using paper instead of plastic straws, large bottle amenities, donation of clothing such as pre-loved uniforms, removal of plastic water bottles in rooms and venues, working in partnership with Gold Coast City Council for all the recycling across the hotel.
We had dinner at Waves Buffet Restaurant, which has international buffet, something to suit everyones taste.
We’ve been to quite a few buffet restaurants in the past and both my husband and I agreed, this was by far, one of the best we’ve had. The food was incredible but not only that, one of the chefs came out and made sure the customers were enjoying their experience, answering any questions they may have about any of the dishes – you don’t see that often!
We are a seafood loving family and the seafood selection amazed everyone and the staff were fast at clearing away and replacing the seafood peel bowls.
One of the family’s favourite dishes of the evening was the Balti Chicken Curry, a perfectly cooked and authentic North Indian dish. We’ve tasted nothing like it, compliments to the chef!
A favourite with the kids was the dessert station and the chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows. I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries!
The next morning, we enjoyed a hot buffet breakfast at Waves Buffet Restaurant. Whether you like to start your day with fruit or a hot cooked meal or simple cereal, there is something for everyone. The omlette station was a hit and definitely worth waiting for!
Our stay at voco Gold Coast left us wanting to come back. It rained the weekend we stayed so we didn’t have an opportunity to enjoy the swimming pools and spas so next time they’re on top of our list!
