SUMMARY:The Librarian
DESCRIPTION:At first glance\, Paul-Émile Dumoulin seems like just a regular librarian. He is serious\, proud and very orderly. Every book is in its place on his impeccable shelves. The only problem? As soon as Paul-Émile gets his nose in a book\, reality disappears\, giving way to the slightly crazy worlds he discovers between the pages. \nOn his adventures\, the very sensible librarian metamorphoses. He suddenly turns into strange and silly characters who perform acrobatics\, balancing\, juggling\, break dancing and beatboxing. Just how far will reading take him? \nThis show blends clowning\, physical theatre and the circus arts. It invites young audiences to discover the passion of reading and the power of the imagination\, which whisks readers away to faraway lands\, on an adventure\, or into a romance or thriller. \nAt Brisbane Powerhouse from 1-3 October 2026. \nFIND OUT MORE

SUMMARY:Powerplay: Archikid Workshop
DESCRIPTION:PowerPlay\, presented by Brisbane Powerhouse and BMD\, is a new initiative that celebrates young people as active creators\, placing them at the heart of the artistic experience. \nDesigned for children and their families\, PowerPlay offers a dynamic program of FREE workshops\, events and hands-on cultural activities that encourage curiosity\, play and imagination. \nIn Triangulated Hideout\, young makers take on a playful building challenge: transforming simple triangular surfaces into three-dimensional structures that can stand on their own and claim as much space as possible. \nMake it taller. Stretch it wider. Find surprising ways to keep it standing. Can you make enough space to peek through\, crawl under – or even get inside? \nWorking first in small teams and then joining forces\, children will experiment\, test\, tumble\, rebuild\, and discover their own ways of making structure through play. As individual hideouts begin to connect\, the challenge grows: how can separate structures come together to create even more space? \nWith no single right answer and no final form to copy\, every new connection changes what the construction can become. \nDeveloped by archiKID\, the workshop brings together architecture\, geometry\, play\, and hands-on collaborative making\, inviting children and families to explore space and structure through experimentation and imagination. Designed for participants aged 2–99\, everyone can join the challenge at their own level and contribute to an evolving collective playscape. \nFIND OUT MORE

SUMMARY:KOAL
DESCRIPTION:KOAL is an original interactive solo show by Jacinta Yelland that immerses audiences in the heart of the devastating 2019 Australian bushfires. Blending powerful storytelling with audience participation\, the work invites viewers to experience the human and environmental impact of one of the most significant natural disasters in Australia’s history. \nThrough the intertwined stories of a baby koala searching for safety\, a coal miner confronting difficult truths\, and an Indigenous girl navigating a changing landscape\, the performance moves seamlessly between humour\, tenderness and heartbreak. Their journeys reveal the complex relationships between people\, place and responsibility\, while exploring what is lost when homes\, habitats and communities are destroyed. \n \nCombining documentary theatre\, physical performance and clowning\, KOAL transforms real events into an engaging and deeply affecting theatrical experience. Drawing on lived experiences and contemporary conversations around climate\, identity and connection to Country\, the work encourages audiences to reflect on the choices that shape our collective future. \n \nSuitable for a wide range of audiences\, KOAL balances moments of laughter with profound empathy\, creating space for reflection\, conversation and hope. At its core\, the show is a moving exploration of resilience\, loss and recovery\, celebrating the strength of communities while asking what it will take to protect our shared world for future generations. \nAt Brisbane Powerhouse from 9-11 July 2026. \nSuitable for ages 8+\nChildren under the age of two are permitted; all other ages must hold a valid ticket.  Contains strobe lighting and haze.  Involves audience participation. \nFIND OUT MORE
