A family-friendly foodie weekend on the Sunshine Coast

Looking for the perfect family weekend this winter? Why not eat your way around the Sunshine Coast? This July, Queensland’s favourite food and drink festival, The Curated Plate, is back—and it’s the tastiest excuse yet for a Sunny Coast holiday or if you’re local, a staycation.

Running over 10 days, from the beach to the hinterland, the festival showcases the very best of the Sunshine Coast’s local producers, chefs, brewers, and distillers. With more than 50 events on the calendar, there’s something for everyone – including plenty of fun for families.

Friday 25 July: Twilight Tastes

Arrive early and ease into the weekend with some classic Coast attractions—think Aussie World, Australia Zoo, Sea Life, or simply soaking up the sun at one of the region’s pristine beaches.

Check in to one of the many Airbnb holiday homes across the Coast, where everyone in the family can have their own space. There are plenty of dog-friendly options, too!

That evening, the Sunshine Pantry Twilight Market is a must-visit. Held under twinkling lights, this vibrant marketplace brings together over 80 local stallholders offering everything from farm-fresh produce to boutique spirits and decadent sweet treats. Kids can enjoy the bustling atmosphere while parents indulge in gourmet samples, meet local makers, and pick up tips from live cooking demos by some of the region’s top chefs.

Saturday 26 July: Picnic With Bluey

Saturday is all about fun in the sun at Kings Beach in Caloundra. For the first time ever, Picnic at Kings will pop up as part of the festival. This relaxed, family-friendly event transforms the Kings Beach lawn into a foodie wonderland.

Pack your picnic rug and settle in for a day of tasty bites, local produce, and live entertainment. And for the little ones? Special guests Bluey and Bingo will be there, alongside a bunch of hands-on kids’ activities—from veggie planting to kids’ cooking classes.

Sunday 27 July: Seafood by the Sea

Wrap up your weekend with a morning beach stroll and coffee in Mooloolaba, followed by a visit to the Mooloolaba Seafood Market Day. This family-friendly food fest offers $5 and $10 seafood plates, live music, and the chance to meet local fishers and chefs. Set right on the Mooloolah River, it’s the ultimate spot for a relaxed Sunday lunch with a side of ocean views.

So pack your bags, bring your appetites, and make the most of winter on the Sunny Coast— delicious memories await!
