Pack the gumboots and the giggles for Scenic Rim Eat Local Month

Calling all curious kids and fun-loving families – it’s time to learn where your food comes from (hint: it’s not a bottle, carton or a packet). Scenic Rim Eat Local Month is the ultimate family adventure!

Scenic Rim Eat Local Month is back this June and bursting with flavour, fun, and family-friendly frolics! If your little ones love cuddling camels and sheep, getting their hands and feet dirty digging up veggies, walking through flower fields, and even watching an epic tractor pull, then this is your sign to grab the fam and head to the Scenic Rim for Queensland’s most delicious month-long celebration.

From paddocks to playgrounds, this award-winning and authentic paddock-to-plate festival features more than 45 family-friendly events across five weekends, designed to spark curiosity, ignite tastebuds, educate young minds and maybe—just maybe—sneak a veggie or two onto the plate without a fuss. Just don’t forget to bring your appetite—and a few wet wipes!

Let the kids get their hands dirty harvesting real vegetables with fifth-generation farmers, feed camels, watch sheep milking demos, or gather ‘round the campfire to cook damper as a family. There’s no app or screen that can compete with this kind of learning-by-doing fun.

By the end of Eat Local Month, they’ll know it comes from a cow, or a camel, or a sheep or even a goat, depending on the day!

Cap off your Eat Local Month adventure at the Winter Harvest Festival on June 28 – the delicious grand finale and ultimate family day out.

Held in the stunning village of Kalbar just an hour from Brisbane and 90 minutes from the Gold Coast, this flavour-packed weekend brings the best of the Scenic Rim together. Meet the region’s Food Ambassador Chefs, mingle with passionate growers and producers, and taste your way through more than 60 stalls brimming with local goodness. From hands-on cooking demos and live music and kids’ activities galore, it’s a full serving of country charm with a side of fun. Empty eskies welcome – you’ll want to stock up!

And let’s talk TRACTORS! Because no family trip to the country is complete without a little tractor action, the world-famous Tractor Pull returns to the Winter Harvest Festival on Saturday, 28 June in Kalbar. Yep, real teams of humans take the strain and pull a real tractor for ultimate glory – the Open Event features a 10-tonne Kubota Tractor and the juniors take the strain on a One Tonner! Heads up – every year it’s a local butchers vs veggie growers showdown!

5 Hot Tips for Farm-tastic Family Fun!

(aka how to avoid tears, tantrums and make the most of everything!)

1. Boot Up, Wipe Down

Mud is mandatory, and messy is magic! Chuck in the gumboots and back-up clothes, and keep those wipes within arm’s reach—you never know when a camel kiss or a juice explosion might strike.

2. Book It Like It’s Hot

The cutest events (we’re looking at you, edible flower cupcake class) fill up fast. If you snooze, you lose your spot on the hay bale. Head to eatlocalmonth.com.au and lock in your fam’s faves early.

3. Make a Weekend of It

Turn the farm fun into a full-blown foodie holiday! Choose a Scenic Rim sub-region, stay the night, and hit a few events while you’re there. Bonus: more memories, more snacks, less stress. You can find more info here.

4. Bring the Big Appetite (and the Bigger Esky)

The tastings are generous, the producers are proud, and your car-boot will become a roaming pantry. BYO cooler for all the cheese, chutney, carrots and camel milk you never knew you needed.

5. Let the Kids Be Boss

They’ll want to pat the sheep, pick the carrots and pull you toward the tractor. Let them lead the day—it’s their chance to connect with nature, meet their food, and feel like farmers. (The wholesome kind, with camel milk gelato.)
