Looking for ways to keep the kids entertained and sneak in a little learning? South Bank has you covered.
From hands-on art and ancient cultures to edible gardens and river-inspired play, this iconic precinct is packed with fun-filled experiences that spark curiosity, imagination and discovery – all without the classroom.
Get Creative at QAGOMA
Unleash your child’s inner artist at QAGOMA’s Wonderstruck – a free exhibition running from 28 June to 6 October 2025. Don’t miss the return of the beloved Obliteration Room, where kids are invited to transform an all-white space into a colourful masterpiece with dot stickers. It’s creative, calming and completely fun – perfect for little ones to explore art in an interactive way.
Forage and Learn at Epicurious Garden
Wander through a real working garden and get a taste of where food comes from. Epicurious Garden is full of herbs, fruit, vegetables and exotic plants – ideal for mini gardeners in the making. While only volunteers can pick the produce, families can collect fresh samples from the Harvest Cart (open Tuesday to Thursday, 7am–2pm) or simply explore the garden to learn how plants grow, smell and thrive.
Journey back through time at Queensland Museum
Only here until August – Discovering Ancient Egypt is a dazzling exhibition that brings the land of the pharaohs to life. With fascinating 3D projections and hundreds of ancient artefacts, this immersive experience offers kids a hands-on history lesson they won’t forget.
Dive into educational waterplay at Aquativity
The best thing about living in Queensland is our sunny winter days so head to Aquativity, South Bank’s unique water-play park designed just for families. More than just splashy fun, it’s filled with interactive elements that teach kids about the Brisbane River, native wildlife like dugongs and mullet, and the importance of protecting our waterways. It’s outdoor learning at its best.
Discover nature up close
South Bank’s 42-hectare parklands are teeming with wildlife, from butterflies and lizards to one of South Bank’s most protected species – the Grey-headed Flying Fox. These large fruit bats help keep ecosystems healthy by pollinating native plants and spreading seeds. Spot them high in the trees in Rainforest Green or near Memorial Park. Hot tip – pull out your phone and log any flora and fauna you spot into the iNaturalist app – it’s a fun way for kids to learn more about the incredible creatures that call South Bank home.
