A symphonic fairytale ballet designed for families.
Join the courageous young scout Peter as he embarks on an adventure to the zoo in this much-loved ballet with a musical twist!
In a family-friendly tale, Peter meets a collection of cheeky animal characters, including a rascally wolf, an unlucky duck, a clever cat, and a delicate bluebird.
The musical education of young listeners was in mind when Sergei Prokofiev composed this renowned score back in 1936. Throughout this imaginative retelling, each musical instrument represents a character: Peter is represented by the strings family; the delicate bluebird follows the notes of the flute; and the stealthy wolf is portrayed by the French horns. The cat moves in tune with the clarinet; the oboe and the duck are a perfect match; and loveable Grandpa moves steadily to the sound of the bassoon.
Greg Horsman’s choreography will draw audiences of all ages into the symphonic tale, while narration by Hugh Parker is a perfect addition to the storytelling aspect for children. With colourful costumes, sets, and lighting design by a renowned creative team (Noelene Hill, Josh McIntosh, and Ben Hughes), this is a visually charming Peter and the Wolf.
Composed as an introduction to the orchestra for children, the lively production sits within Queensland Ballet’s hugely popular My First Ballet series, inspiring the littlest of ballet lovers.
