Queensland Day is just around the corner, and this year families across the state are being invited to celebrate in ways that are fun, creative and full of local pride. From budding young artists to school-wide dress-ups, there are plenty of opportunities for children to get involved and feel part of something special.
At the heart of this year’s celebrations is a focus on creativity and connection, encouraging kids to reflect on what makes Queensland such a unique and vibrant place to call home.
One of the highlights is the “What Queensland Means to You” Arts Competition, which invites children aged 4 to 18 to share their perspective through art. Whether it’s a painting of a favourite beach, a drawing of native wildlife, or an imaginative interpretation of life in the Sunshine State, the competition is all about self-expression.
Entries will be judged across four age categories, with exciting prizes up for grabs. Selected artworks will also be showcased at the BNE Gallery in Brisbane’s Domestic Airport Terminal —giving young artists a moment in the spotlight. Entries close on Friday, 22 May, with full details available on the Queensland Day website.

Schools can also join the celebrations by taking part in Wear Maroon Day on Friday, 5 June. Students, teachers and staff are encouraged to dress in Queensland’s iconic colour, whether it’s a maroon shirt, hat or even a scrunchie, to show their state pride.
To help schools get involved, a suite of Queensland Day-themed activities has been shared, including word searches, spot-the-difference puzzles and colouring-in sheets — perfect for classrooms and home learning alike.
