National Pyjama Day Launch: Wear Your Pyjamas and Change a Child’s Future This July

Australia’s comfiest fundraiser is back for another year, with registrations now open for National Pyjama Day 2026.

Proudly hosted by The Pyjama Foundation, National Pyjama Day invites Australians to throw on their favourite PJs, host a fun-filled event, and help make a difference for children in foster care.

Following a record-breaking year in 2025, where more than $1 million was raised to support children in foster care and more than 400,000 Australians got involved, The Pyjama Foundation is calling on schools, workplaces, childcare centres, community groups, and families across the country to get involved in 2026 and help make an even bigger impact.

The official date for National Pyjama Day 2026 is Friday, July 24, however participants are encouraged to host their event anytime throughout July or August.

Every dollar raised helps The Pyjama Foundation recruit, screen, train, and support dedicated volunteers who work one-on-one with children in foster care through the Love of Learning Program.

Through the Program, volunteer mentors known as Pyjama Angels spend time each week reading with children, helping with homework, building confidence, and encouraging a love of learning. These positive and consistent relationships help children improve their educational outcomes and give them the support they need to thrive.

“There are more than 46,000 children living in out-of-home care across Australia, and many are at risk of falling behind in education,” said Bronwyn Sheehan OAM.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of Australians, we raised more than $1 million through National Pyjama Day in 2025, allowing us to support more children with mentors, learning support, and positive role models.”

“National Pyjama Day is about bringing communities together to help children in care feel safe, supported, and confident. With more support in 2026, we can continue reaching more children and helping change their futures.”

Each year, hundreds of thousands of Australians take part in National Pyjama Day, making it one of the country’s most loved community fundraisers.

When participants register to host an event, they receive a free host kit filled with posters, balloons, stickers, bunting, and other fundraising resources to help bring their Pyjama Day to life.

Whether it is a dress-up donation day at school, a workplace morning tea, a pyjama-themed party, or a community fundraiser, every event helps provide children in foster care with life-changing learning support and mentorship.
