Taylor Swift goes back to her country roots in Toy Story 5

Parents of Swifties and Toy Story fans, brace your wallets and your eardrums, your worlds are about to collide in the best way possible in Toy Story 5.

Following the massive success of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, the 14-time GRAMMY® winner has just announced a brand-new original song for Disney and Pixar’s upcoming movie, Toy Story 5 (hitting theatres June 18).

The track is called “I Knew It, I Knew You,” and it drops on all streaming platforms this Saturday, June 6.

A total treat for OG Taylor fans (and Jessie!)

If you’ve missed Taylor’s country eras, you’re in luck. The new song — written and produced alongside her long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff — is a heartfelt nod to Taylor’s country roots.

Even sweeter? It was specifically inspired by everyone’s favourite rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl, Jessie, and her ongoing emotional journey that we first fell in love with back in Toy Story 2.

“It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song,” says Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton. “Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable… it instantly felt like it had always belonged there.”

The Swiftie details you need to know

Because it’s Taylor, this isn’t just a simple song drop. Here is the breakdown of what your Swiftie-obsessed kids are already screaming about:

  • The Billboard Easter Eggs: Over the weekend, cryptic “TS” billboards popped up across major global cities like LA, Chicago, Toronto, and London. While casual drivers thought it meant Taylor Swift, it was actually a clever double-meaning for Toy Story!
  • Exclusive merch: Pre-sales have officially launched on Taylor Swift’s website for three exclusive CD editions. Each features the main track, plus special acoustic and piano versions with unique vocals and production.

What is ‘Toy Story 5’ about?

When you head to the cinemas on June 18, expect a storyline that every modern parent will deeply relate to: Toy meets Tech.

Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the gang face their biggest rival yet: Lilypad (voiced by Greta Lee), a brand-new tablet device given to Bonnie. Lilypad has some seriously disruptive ideas about what “playtime” should look like, leaving our favourite vintage toys wondering if they can ever compete with a screen. (We feel your pain, Woody).
