Welcome to Spring, to warmer days, and our Kids on the Coast Magazine SWIM Special!
Those who know me know that I have a love-hate relationship with swimming. I’m fiercely determined that my children learn to swim, with weekends spent coaxing them into the ocean and after-school sessions spent cheering them on at the pool. All despite my own crippling fear of water. Ironically, after living by the ocean for almost 25 years, I haven’t been able to overcome my phobia, and I am adamant that my kids will not inherit this trait.
On trips north to the reef, you’ll find me holding the towels or hovering at the shoreline, hoping a turtle will come over to say ‘hi’. I don’t think many people understand the importance of learning to swim more than those who are resigned to the sidelines and live in constant fear when around water.
So, to help us all transition to spring and ocean-ready days, we chat with Jay Clarke from Rackley Swimming to find out more about critical water safety education for our little ones. We also chat with Nathan Grieg, surf lifesaver and swim coach from Alite Edvantage, to find out how to nurture the intrinsic connection to water that all Sunshine Coast kids need.
If your child is showing signs of being scared of the water, we have some great tips on overcoming aquaphobia. I will be putting some of these into practice for myself this spring!
Plus, if you are looking for a swim school, head to page 28 for a list of all the swim schools on the Sunshine Coast.
Out of the pool, we visit Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure Buderim, to see how they are nurturing growth in the preschool years through independence. Love that idea! We are also joined by local baby sleep expert Kate Tronc, who is here to solve your baby’s sleep problems.
As always, we have the regular news, reviews, kid-friendly events and more, all wrapped up in our splash-tastic spring edition of Kids on the Coast Magazine!
