Winter 2026 issue of Kids in the City magazine Brisbane is OUT NOW!

Welcome to the Winter edition of Kids in the City magazine, Brisbane!

Winter in South East Queensland is a bit of a hilarious social experiment.

The second the thermostat drops to 19 degrees, the puffer jackets emerge from the back of the cupboard, the kids start acting like they’re stranded in Antarctica, and we collectively treat a sunny patch of grass at 10 am like a luxury spa.

But honestly? It might just be the best time of year here. The humidity drops, the crowds thin out and let’s be real, we all need a reason to slow down a bit.

Between the cost of living and the general chaos of family life, we know everyone is feeling a little tired and stretched right now. So, our winter issue isn’t about striving for picture-perfect parenting; it’s about finding those easy wins, local secrets and practical ideas to get you through the colder months.

We spent an incredible morning at Mancel College, discovering how this groundbreaking school is changing the game for kids with language disorders. From building vital independence skills in the early years to virtual driving programs and trade certificates for seniors, the passion and dedication behind this rapidly growing college are something truly special.

We also tackle the winter swim debate, because… yes, stripping a wet, shivering toddler out of swimmers in June feels like an extreme sport, but we catch up with Rackley Swimming to explore the surprising developmental benefits of maintaining water time through the cooler months.

Need a break? We checked into the new Safari Retreat tents at BIG4 Gold Coast. Spoiler: it’s the kind of camping where parents actually get to relax. As winter leads us to more indoor time, we flip the screen-time script, meeting Edit the Robot that is helping bridge the gap between technology and our littlest learners, showing us how devices can be tools for actual creativity and collaboration, rather than just passive scrolling.

If you need a warm, indoor escape that won’t cost a cent, we explore the beautifully refreshed space at The Corner (State Library Queensland), designed specifically for hands-on play and storytelling for ages 0–8.

As always, we’ve also packed the mag with local events, news, reviews and budget-friendly winter activities across South East Queensland. So throw on a jumper (a light one, it’s still Queensland), grab a hot coffee, and take it one day at a time. We’ve got you covered.
