This winter edition takes us from virtual hospitals to pirate adventures, and honestly, that feels like the perfect snapshot of education in 2026 for our Education Issue!
We spend a fascinating morning at Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH), stepping into the new virtual reality learning hospital now used by health students. Through VR headsets, students can experience real-world healthcare scenarios in an immersive, highly practical way. It’s a remarkable glimpse into the future of learning — and the opportunities now available to young people considering careers in health. You can read more on page 22.
We also head to beautiful Noosa, where the Prep classrooms at Sunshine Beach State School are embracing the Walker Learning approach. Watching those little learners thrive through play-based, hands-on experiences is truly special.
Elsewhere in this edition, we chat with Rochelle Callard from NumberWorks’nWords about easing homework battles at home (surely we’re not the only families who occasionally dread maths homework time). Suncoast Christian College shares how its Stage 1 students are building strong early-years writing skills by diving headfirst into worlds of pirates, dragons, superheroes, deep-sea adventures and outer space.
We also go behind the doors at Sunshine Coast Grammar School, where academic success is being shaped well beyond the classroom walls.
And of course, we can’t let this season pass without celebrating Pacific Lutheran College’s 25 years of learning, community and growth — a wonderful milestone for one of the Coast’s much-loved schools.
