Editor’s FAVE school holiday activities in Brisbane

Need some help to choose where to take the kids this spring school holiday in Brisbane? We are here to end information overload, as I have personally trawled through what’s on for kids this spring and put together my recommended list of places to go!

Maybe I’ll see you there?!

Spring school holiday activities for active kids

Got super-energetic kids? Yup, me too. Therefore, we will 100% be taking a trip to the new BOUNCE centre in Morayfield to burn off some steam. BOUNCE is holding its popular end-of-term After Dark party at all three locations – Morayfield, Tingalpa and Macgregor – which is three hours of uninterrupted freestyle bounce fun for school-aged kids.

If you have little ones, miniBOUNCE is open every day of the spring school holidays for preschool sessions. Offering a universe of fun, freestyle, progression and development for walking-age toddlers through to six-year-old adrenaline hunters, there’s great food, coffee, and free Wi-Fi, too!

UrbanXtreme has got plenty on for the energetic ones, too. Their full-day school holiday camp gives kids a chance to try one of their adventure sports, which is a wonderful way to have a go at snowboarding without leaving the city!

Talking of trying new things, Golf Central BNE is holding its super-fun Junior Golf Clinics from September 20 – 28. There are sessions for complete newbies, so it’s a simple introduction to golf, with the added benefit of being coached by a PGA professional coach!

One event we’ll undoubtedly be bouncing to over the break is Monster Jump at Sandstone Point Hotel. This epic inflatable obstacle course jumps into the Sandstone Point from 16 September to 2 October. We can’t wait!

Family activities in Brisbane this spring school holiday

Though the holidays are a crazy juggle of kids and work, it’s still a nice opportunity to put the laptop away and do something different together. And this spring has plenty of family activities to share. The incredible Brisbane Festival lasts until September 23, with plenty of mesmerising fun. Explore the brilliance of Brisbane City Botanical Gardens after dark at Lightscape, or dive with a friendly giant at Erth’s Shark Dive.

Ipswich is also running its Spring Vibes festival, which we can’t wait to check out. Talmur Place will come alive from September 20 – 27 with roving performers, mini markets, yard games and a kid-friendly DJ. Sounds like the perfect way to welcome in the spring!

For totally free, family-friendly fun, Park Play is also on this spring school holidays at Victoria Park with animal-themed activities the kids will love! On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 18-27 September 2023, 9 am-1 pm each day, Park Play will provide kids with fun experiences and performances that will keep them engaged while keeping parents entertained, too!

Also on my hit list, this spring school holiday in Brisbane is a day at Hologram Zoo, where kids (and grownups!) can interact with holographic animals – feeding and playing with them. If the kids and I get to pat a dolphin and an elephant, I think we’ve had a winning school holiday!

If you feel like a getaway (yes please!), Kingfisher Bay Resort has a fab offer on until the end of the year – which includes travel during the school holidays! Stay in a self-contained villa for three nights or more, and kids travel, stay & eat for free! This is your chance to escape to K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) and receive free ferry transfers, accommodation, breakfast and dinner for the kids.

Vacation care & educational activities

Of course, we still have to work, so vacation care is also necessary during the school break. Australia Early Learning Colleges are running their popular vacation program at their Heritage Park centre, offering daily excursions. I hear they have also upgraded their phenomenal outdoor play space, which the kids can’t wait to check out!

Junior Engineers is also running a fab program of coding, robotics and creative classes, with something for every kid. These are held both at Junior Engineers’ locations and online – if you work from home. Plus, Kids in the City readers can save 10% at Junior Engineers this spring; use Code KITCSURVIVAL10 at checkout!

The free Cross River Rail school holiday program returns again this holiday season. Perfect for primary-aged kids and enjoyable for adults, it involves investigating electronics and signals, getting creative with clay, or exploring archaeology and maps. It takes place at the Cross River Rail Experience Centre in the CBD.
