National Simultaneous Storytime 2023 – Logan Locations

Brisbane, Education News, News

Children are invited to special storytime sessions, as Logan Libraries will join a nationwide reading activity during the 2023 National Simultaneous Storytime.

The featured book The Speedy Sloth, by author Rebecca Young, will be read throughout Australia on Wednesday, May 24 at various locations including libraries, schools, bookshops, pre-schools, childcare centres and family homes.

More than 2.18 million participants took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime event last year, at more than 59,000 locations.

This year’s free Simultaneous Storytime is from 11am at Marsden, Logan North, Beenleigh, Logan West and Jimboomba libraries. Greenbank and Logan Hyperdome libraries are also participating as part of their regular weekly storytime sessions on Wednesday, May 24.

Sessions there will commence at 10.15am (Logan Hyperdome Library) and 10.30am (Greenbank Library).

Bookings are suggested and can be made online at Logan Libraries What’s On Page.

The Speedy Sloth tells the story about Spike the sloth, who might be slow, but for a sloth she is FAST! And nothing will stop her from finishing the race. This inspirational story reminds people that winning does not always mean beating everyone else. Instead, it is the feeling people get from setting themselves a challenge, conquering their fears or trying something new.

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is a nationwide group reading and literacy activity where libraries, schools and various organisations bring school-aged children together for a simultaneous reading session of a specially selected picture book.

The Speedy Sloth is written by Rebecca Young, illustrated by Heath McKenzie & published by Scholastic Australia.
