The Nurso at Chandler is a funky indoor/outdoor garden centre and nursery. It’s a green thumb’s haven with a plethora of pots and plants, but there’s so much for the kids to do too!
Located at the former Hawkins Nursery Garden Centre on Old Cleveland Road, the 4.5-hectare site has been brought back to life. Plant lovers rejoice; everywhere you look you’ll see lush foliage.
It’s hard not to be impressed and it’s easy to spend an entire morning exploring. The indoor garden centre is where you’ll find a range of house plants, beautiful pots and homewares. There is patio furniture, wall art and other trinkets. The outdoor nursery is a sheer delight. There are plants for the home and the garden here. You’ll also be amazed at the abundance of pots, birdbaths and more.
But wait, there’s more
If you think The Nurso is just another ordinary nursery, you’re wrong! Outside in the centre of all the greenery is the on-site cafe, Egg & Ladle. It offers Asian-inspired eats for breakfast and lunch, seven days a week. Think Japanese omelette, Penang curry and Banh mi with five spice chicken… But you can also get breakfast classics like bacon and eggs, and avocado toast, as well as sweet treats.
There is delicious coffee and cold drinks too!
You can sit outside at the picnic tables provided or head undercover to a pavilion-style set-up with tables and chairs, art and plants. At both of the dining areas, you can see the small enclosed play zone for kids. If you have little ones, they’ll delight in riding around the nursery on the tricycles provided. It makes browsing a breeze!
The Nurso has a relaxed vibe about it, and it doesn’t go without notice that everyone working there has a relaxed smile on their faces. It’s infectious.

One of the first things you’ll notice when you arrive at The Nurso is the vibrant street art adorning the walls. Local artists were commissioned to brighten the place up, having sat empty and unloved for more than a decade. The works are beautiful and unique, and provide an opportunity to engage with the kids as you walk among the plants. It’s certainly fun to spot the different designs.
What about the kids?
If you’ve got a Little One in tow, they’ll love hanging out in the play zone. There is a cubby house, chalk to draw with, diggers and other toys.
Kids of all ages will be thrilled to find a menagerie of farm animals in pens at the back of the property. Head towards ‘The Garden’ and you’ll find baby goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, sheep and horses. Note, no petting allowed, regardless of how cute they are.
Resident border collie, Dusty, roams freely about The Nurso. It’s possible you’ll also find him in the off-leash dog area or trying to round up the sheep or horses in the paddocks.
There is also a large fish pond with fish swimming around inside it.
