Construction has officially begun on a new $98 million Caloundra primary school in Caloundra South, marking a significant step forward for families in one of the Sunshine Coast’s fastest-growing communities.
Set to open in Term 1, 2028, the new state school will cater for up to 1,140 students from Prep to Year 6, helping to ease enrolment pressure in the rapidly expanding region.
Located within the Caloundra South Priority Development Area, the school is being designed as a modern, future-focused campus. Plans include 48 learning spaces, a science and technology centre, a multi-purpose hall, a resource centre, and a kindergarten.
For local families, the inclusion of an on-site Early Years Place is expected to be a key feature, offering access to health, wellbeing and family support services for young children.
Outdoor play and sporting facilities will also form part of the development, alongside dedicated staff and visitor parking.
Queensland Minister for Education, John-Paul Langbroek, said the project reflects the need for new education infrastructure in high-growth areas.
“This is an exciting milestone for the Sunshine Coast community,” he said.
“Investing in new schools like this helps ensure local families have access to quality education close to home, while also supporting future growth in the region.”
To streamline delivery, stages one and two of construction will be completed concurrently, with the goal of having the Caloundra primary school ready to welcome students in 2028.
The Caloundra South project is part of a broader statewide school-building program, which includes multiple new schools and upgrades aimed at supporting Queensland’s growing population.
For families moving into the area — or already calling it home — the new school offers reassurance that education infrastructure is being planned alongside community growth.
