Established in 1912, Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) is an independent school for boys, located in the inner-city suburb of East Brisbane, with boarding offered for students in Years 7 to 12. Boarding has been at the heart of Churchie for over 100 years, and the school is committed to providing Australia’s regional and rural students with an excellent education in a nurturing environment.
Churchie’s location in the heart of Brisbane provides easy access to all the services and recreational opportunities of a thriving world city. Situated on the largest inner-city school campus in Brisbane, Churchie Boarding truly is an experience like no other, where boys are fully immersed and supported in their development.
All Churchie boarders receive the highest level of care from a dedicated core team of specialist staff who live on campus with their families, including the director of boarding and a housemaster, assistant housemaster, housemother and resident master for each house. They are further supported by a network of teachers, nurses, catering staff, and academic and counselling staff across the school who are united in their commitment to the best care for Churchie’s boarders.
The school’s purpose-built boarding facilities—including new accommodation—together with our spacious 22-hectare campus, provide the ideal environment in which boys can thrive.
Churchie’s central mission, the making of men, is achieved through the development of young men of good character, strong intellect and generous spirit who will move confidently into the global community and who will use their talents and gifts to lead and serve others. The four founding tenets of the school—academic excellence, spiritual awareness, personal growth and service—remain at the core of day-to-day activities.
Committed to academic excellence, Churchie provides the best academic pathway to suit the needs of each student, with the Queensland Certificate of Education, International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and Vocational Education and Training (VET) offered as distinct pathways in Years 11 and 12.
Spirituality is a tenet of Churchie life that ultimately seeks to develop empathy and respect for others while exploring faith and self-awareness. True to our Anglican traditions and values, we encourage an openness and tolerance of the faith and beliefs of others.
Churchie aims to foster personal growth and development in the life of every student through weekly pastoral learning classes, a wealth of cocurricular activities and the outdoor education program. By participating in these programs, boys develop emotional intelligence, learn interdependence and teamwork, and build resilience and responsibility.
The school has a strong commitment to service, and Churchie students are encouraged to participate in a wide array of service initiatives, such as international service tours, delivering Meals on Wheels, fundraising for various not-for-profit organisations, peer tutoring, assisting in special school programs and volunteering in activities such as the Sony Foundation’s Children’s Holiday Camp, hosted at Churchie.
Ultimately, it’s a combination of Churchie’s expert staff, world-class facilities and commitment to excellence across all tenets of the school that provide an environment within which boys grow into accomplished young men.
