Sixteen Year 12 students from Grace Lutheran College (11 girls and 5 boys), who had shown an interest in a career in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), were selected to take attend an Air Force Simulator Experience recently. The day was organised by the Women in Defence Team and Defence Force Recruiting Brisbane.
The unique opportunity, held over three days, allowed students to have a go at the 737 simulator and other activities while talking to current serving Air Force personnel about possible career paths.
Representatives from a wide range of aviation careers were present to chat to the students, including Pilot, Joint Battle Aerospace Controller (ATC), Air Combat Officer, Crew Attendant, and Loadmaster.
The students had an excellent day, enjoying all the simulations, suiting up as aviators for the day, getting hands-on experience with all the activities, and learning a lot about aviation.
The day also dispelled a few myths about women in the Defence Force for the girls attending, with several students showing further interest in the range of careers in the ADF, and two students entering the recruiting pipeline.
