Apps and games to keep kids learning

Reading Eggs. This very popular online learning platform helps kids build essential reading skills from home. Subscription gives you access to a comprehensive range of resources, including self-paced lessons, multiple learning areas, assessment quizzes and automated progress reports. Reading Eggs also provides plenty of printable worksheets and detailed lesson plans if you’d like to support your child’s home learning even further. Reading Eggs are currently offering 30 days free for new subscribers.
Mathletics. Utilised by many primary schools, this online platform blends rewards with adventures to test children’s maths abilities. It also allows teachers to set tasks for kids to complete at home.
Matific. Matific is a personalised maths learning for K-6 students, aligned to the curriculum.
Prodigy. Cool pets, epic battles and… maths practice? Prodigy is a free maths game where kids can earn prices, go on quests and play with friends – all while learning maths. Content is tailored to every player’s strengths and weaknesses. Parents can create a free parent account to see what your child is working on, monitor their understanding, set goals and give rewards.
Sesame Workshop, Caring for Each Other Initiative. The nonprofit educational organisation behind Sesame Street is offering a broad variety of free resources to help children and families during the coronavirus pandemic. Content features the Sesame Street Muppets sharing messages of love and kindness, playful learning activities, and virtual play dates launching soon. Mindful that the adults who care for children need support too, the resources are intended to help caregivers as well as children.
Scholastic. Scholastic Learn at Home offers daily activities to keep kids reading, thinking and growing.
Other Goose. Founded by bestselling author Erin Loechner, Other Goose is an online homeschooling strategy for kids under seven. Due to the current pandemic, they are offering 3 weeks free.
Code.org. Chock-full of tutorials and activities around coding and computing, code.org is a nonprofit dedicated to providing every student in every school access to learning computer science.
Study Ladder. A comprehensive program of online educational activities for students aged 4 to 12, mapped to the curriculum.
Learning at Home. The Department of Education has provided a collection of home learning resources in line with the curriculum for each year group and subject.
Merlin’s Education Toolbox. Find educational videos, activity worksheets, curriculum-based projects, craft ideas and more, all based on Merlin Entertainments attractions!
Libraries. Our region’s libraries have a huge range of online and e-resources to keep little ones engaged and reading. Visit your region’s site to find out more.

Tutoring and virtual workshops

The wonderful team at Street Science are offering daily online science lessons, which you can join from home. Topics will vary and will have curriculum links.
Offering online tutoring for primary and high school students in literacy, numeracy, and writing skills. All are held online through Zoom, for individuals or small groups.
Cluey is built around your learning needs, to provide you with the right help at the right time. Offering tuition in Maths, English and Chemistry for Years 3-12, all sessions are online with a personal one-to-one tutor.
