World-famous Australian author Danny Parker will launch his new children’s book, Shine, with the help of Year 3 students at Matthew Flinders Anglican College on the Sunshine Coast on Monday, 15 March.
Shine is Mr Parker’s 12th children’s book, inspired by his daughter and written as a love song between parent and child.
Head of Creative Arts and author-in-residence at the College, Mr Parker can’t wait for the Year 3 students at Flinders to get his book out to the community. The book launch event is open to members of the Sunshine Coast community and will be held at Flinders’ new Years 5 and 6 Precinct from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
The students are in charge of coordinating the entire book launch, including marketing, advertising, poster illustration, promotion, catering, entertainment and budgeting.
Year 3 student, Sienna, age eight, said it was exciting that Mr Parker chose her class for his first public book reading of his new book.
“It is also fun for us as students to be organising the book launch for Mr Parker, which is usually a job that adults do.”
Mr Parker said he had been writing books for seven years.
“I’m super excited to launch my new book, Shine , at Flinders,” Mr Parker said. “Shine is about golden moments and wonderful things, and Flinders is about all of these things too.”
Head of Primary, Mrs Trudi Edwards said the College was fortunate to have an author in residence to inspire students to love books and build literacy skills. “It’s also wonderful that our students have the opportunity to create this book launch as a real-world learning experience through our i-Impact curriculum to encourage design thinking and entrepreneurship.”
