Clancestry for Kids

August 3 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Clancestry for Kids

Clancestry returns from 30 July to 9 August in a program of First Nations arts and culture at QPAC.

An iconic event part of QPAC’s calendar since 2013, Clancestry is a celebration of identity and connection, providing a platform for both established and emerging First Nations artists to share their stories, perspectives, and talents.

Saturday 3 August is all about kids at Clancestry. Big and little kids alike will enjoy all that’s on offer as part Clancestry for Kids. Filled with fun and free activities, there will be plenty to keep little ones engaged while they explore their curiosity and creativity.

The team from the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) will host craft activities including scratch art, clay sculpting, story books and collage using natural materials. One of 2023’s most popular events, Face Painting with Kaylah Coghill, also makes its return to Clancestry.

For kids looking to move and groove, Hip Hop Dance Workshops with Georgie Baumann will be a chance to learn some of the foundations of Hip Hop while having fun with dance-backed games.

Head to QPAC a little earlier in the day and take part in the free Weaving Workshops happening inside from 9.30am. Using recycled materials, participants will learn how to twist and weave together different textures, working through different weaving techniques, while sharing in the storytelling of First Nations ancestors. You’ll also get to take home your very own woven masterpiece.
