Horizon Festival is the Sunshine Coast’s leading contemporary multi-arts festival. This year’s event is held over 10 days and nights, from Friday, August 26 to Sunday, September 4.

Delivering an exciting range of contemporary cultural programs including music, visual art, theatre and creative workshops, Horizon Festival is a wonderful way to engage and inspire kids.

Celebrating home-grown and global artists, the 2022 Horizon Festival program has a huge offering for kids. Whether it’s free workshops for Mums and Bubs or dancing your socks off to your favourite rhymes, there’s something that will spark creativity and wonder for every member of the family.

Babushka in right to party – Sat 27 Aug  / 2pm & Sun 28 Aug / 10am + 2pm

School of Rock meets Beastie Boys and the Spice Girls in this rebellious party playlist.
A high energy cabaret for kids, featuring rebellious music, vocal acrobatics and a whole lotta mischief – spike your mohawk and fight for your right to party!

Guyu and Friend Mr Pelican – Sat 27 Aug-Sun 4 Sep / 9am – 12pm daily drop-in

A children’s book by Aunty Hope (Dr Hope O’Chin) that tells the Dreamtime story of a boy called Guyu and his friend, Mr Pelican. Watch a film of Aunty Hope reading the book, explore Kabi-Kabi language through the accompanying activity booklet.
There will be Guyu and Friend Mr Pelican books available to take home.

Horizon Kids: Family Hours – Sat 27 Aug–Sun 4 Sep / 9am–12pm daily

Every morning the Wonderland Spiegeltent will be commandeered by kids and their keepers.
Imagine a garden full of paint, glue and beanbags, and a tent full of circus, music and comedy. A space thoughtfully curated for the Coast’s little artists to have a laugh and dirty their fingernails.
Create a coastal collage in an activity designed by The Butiner. The Pottery Studio will have you getting messy making clay animal figurines. Colour, make music, or just chill out in our reading nook, thanks to New Art Dreaming, King Street Music School, and Sunshine Coast Libraries. We’ll be playing a new short animation of Guyu and friend Mr Pelican, narrated by author and illustrator Aunty Hope, on a loop. Afterwards, grab a Kabi-Kabi language activity book and a copy of Aunty Hope’s beautifully illustrated story.

Everybody Roar! The Best of Justine Clarke – Tue 30 + Wed 31 Aug / 10am

Iconic entertainer – Justine Clarke (Play School) – and her band bring all her favourites to this special set, as Justine invites you to join in the fun for a sing and a dance.
Having recently released her “best of” album, Everybody Roar!, Justine and her three-piece band will groove their way through classics like ‘Watermelon’, ‘I Like to Sing’ and ‘Dinosaur Roar’, as well as new hits like ‘Everywhere’s a Dancefloor’ and ‘A Banana Is A Banana’. Joined by some of Sydney’s finest musicians, the opportunity to hear all of Justine’s favourites live and up-close is not to be missed.
This show is recommended for children aged 10 years and under. Children 2 years and under come free.

Circus Wonderland – A Neverland Adventure – 2 to 4 Sep

HOLY BIN AMOLEY! is a comedy sketch show brought to you by three ridiculous, bin-loving sillies.
Meet bin-vestigators catching out non-recycling nannies, boogie with the bin chickens, witness the world’s first Bin Doggy Show, and so much more!
This show is the ultimate guide on how to become your best bin self! It’s a show for the whole family with a focus on working out where each piece of rubbish should go and what happens to it next. We use clown-based comedy, musical interludes and a wide range of colourful, charismatic characters to keep the audience engaged and laughing throughout. Our aim is to form good habits with the next generation of recyclers through fun and laughter.
This show is recommended for children aged 10 years and under. Children 2 years and under come free.
