Sing along to the sounds of the golden hour

Among the many music festivals happening at the Gold Coast this weekend, The Long Sunset is sure to have some scenic flair. Having rescheduled from earlier this year (because #floods and #COVID19), this brand-new live music and camping event will finally take place on Saturday, April 30. The grounds of Elysian Fields at Canungra, Scenic Rim, will showcase local food and art while you kick back and listen to some crowd-pleasing acts. Among them, Angus and Julia Stone, Ball Park Music, The Babe Rainbow and Jack Gray, to name a few. There are still tickets available, so be sure to grab yours today!

Gold Coast What's On

If a beach party is more your scene, head to the Golden Shores Festival. Featuring a killer line-up of performers, including The Presets, San Cisco, Wombat and Last Dinosaurs, this event is three days of music on the beach. Head to Surfers Paradise Beach for all the action. Tickets went on sale last November, but you can still get yours for $89 plus booking fee per day. It’s a pretty good deal, if you ask us.

The Outdoor Stage at HOTA will host the Ministry of Sound Classical on Saturday, April 30. The gig features the Ministry of Sound Orchestra accompanied by legendary Australian DJ Groove Terminator, and featuring Miss Connie (Sneaky Sound System) and Danny Harley (The Kite String Tangle) on vocals. This all ages event boasts an all-new set list and includes the most loved tracks from the biggest decades of dance music. Limited tickets are still available.

For the creative minds

From life-sized animals to fashion and fantasy, discover the biggest and best LEGO creations at Bricktionary: The Interactive LEGO® brick Exhibition. This brand new LEGO brick experience will inspire LEGO builders’ imaginations. It showcases some of the largest and latest brick models, including some never-before-shown from the television show LEGO Masters Australia. You can get hands-on at HOTA.

Watch cult classics as part of the Gold Coast Film Festival. Having commenced on April 20, the festival will wrap up on Sunday, May 1. This weekend you’ll see films such as JuniperTo OliviaMiss, and in a nod to it’s 20th year, surfing favourite Blue Crush. Finish off this film-filled bonanza on Sunday at HOTA, where you can catch the Queensland premiere of Luke Hemsworth’s Bosch and Rockit. Be sure to check out the program for screenings and locations.

Think you’ve got a little Michelangelo at home? Colourful Minds is an art-based activity just perfect for your budding artist. Suitable for children aged four years and older, you can get involved in stencilling or open-framed posters for some free, creative painting expression. To get involved, head to the Broadwater Parkland at Southport on Saturday, April 30 between 10am and 2pm.

Gold Coast What's On

Let’s go outside

A new skate park is opening at Pizzey Park, Miami on Saturday, April 30. This free event is an action-packed celebration of one of Australia’s largest and best skating facilities. Watch some of Australia’s best skateboarders and BMX riders tear up the park. There will also be inflatable fun zones, sports challenges, a climbing wall and so much more. The action kicks off at 10am. It’s a great way for the kids to burn some energy.

Spend some time with Mother Nature and learn about the traditional owners at the Pine Ridge Conservation Park, Coombabah. The Traditional Owners’ Walk will take place on Sunday, May 1. Be inspired by Clinton Brewer and his knowledge of the Kombummeri People. See plants and animals of significance and important cultural artefacts. You’ll walk away with a greater understanding of the deep connection they have to the land.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, events may be postponed or cancelled at the last minute. We do our best to ensure our events are up to date, but be sure to check the organiser’s own event page for the most current updates.
