In the heart of Nambour, a unique initiative has been making waves among local families. The Thriving Families Dads Group, hosted by the Nambour Community Centre, has provided a welcoming space for fathers throughout 2024 to connect, share experiences, and enjoy meaningful time with their children. This monthly gathering offers dads the chance to explore the joys and challenges of parenting while participating in engaging activities and discussions that strengthen family bonds.
A space for dads to shine
Facilitated by two male social workers, this activity-based group is tailored for fathers living in or around Nambour who are eager to deepen their relationships with their kids and build connections with other dads. The group nurtures an inclusive and supportive environment where fathers can be unapologetically hands-on, share their experiences, and break through the gender stereotypes that have long shaped traditional ideas of parenting.
More than just a meeting, the Thriving Families Dads Group promotes healthy parent-child bonds and encourages fathers to embrace their unique parenting roles. The program underscores the importance of involved fatherhood, showcasing its impact on family well-being and better health outcomes for men and their loved ones.
Mateship, connection, and discovery
What truly sets this group apart is its lineup of activities. Dads and their children have explored everything from fishing and lawn bowls to pinball and even birdhouse making with the talented team at the Nambour Men’s Shed. Each activity is designed to foster connection, creativity, and laughter—whether it’s mastering the art of casting a fishing line or crafting something memorable together.
The excitement continues into the new year with upcoming activities like swimming and sliding at the Nambour Aquatic Centre, a Rocket Science adventure, a walk through the picturesque Maroochy Botanical Gardens, and a hands-on pizza-making session for dads and kids.
