Sunshine Coast tweens and teens are now able to reap the benefits of yoga in a relaxed setting thanks to a new kids yoga and mentoring program from youth wellbeing service Sunshine Hope.
“Yoga helps kids improve focus, concentration, and confidence,” says Joeline, founder of Sunshine Hope. “It also teaches them how to manage stress and emotions, making them more resilient and relaxed.”
The eight-week program combines fun and engaging yoga poses with mindfulness techniques, creating a holistic approach to child development.
“Through mindfulness, children learn to slow down, pay attention and prolong attention, develop better focus, become self-aware and learn to be present.”
Across the eight weeks, children will learn to strengthen their bodies, calm their minds, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
“Our program includes a variety of poses, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques, all tailored to the age and developmental stage of the children,” says Joeline. “We believe that yoga is a powerful tool for helping children build resilience, self-esteem, and a strong sense of wellbeing.”
Beyond physical and mental benefits, the program aims to foster a sense of empathy, self-awareness, and empowerment. By reflecting on their actions and how they impact others, children can develop a stronger understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Sunshine Hope’s kids yoga program is part of a broader initiative to support children’s wellbeing. The organisation also offers early intervention services, one-to-one mentoring, and social relationship programs.
