Our family-friendly guide to the refurbished Sunshine Plaza

Attractions, Food & Travel, Living, Reviews, Sunshine Coast, Things to Do

With parent rooms, play spaces, paddle boats and family-friendly dining, the huge refurbishment at Sunshine Plaza has transformed it into an entertainment hub for all ages.

As the largest shopping centre on the Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Plaza is one of the region’s most popular shopping destinations. And with families at the forefront of a major redesign, Sunshine Plaza is now top of the list for a one-stop shopping, entertainment and dining destination.

Parenting made easy

Completely eradicating any past car park woes, Sunshine Plaza now has over 4,800 car spaces and ticketless managed parking based on licence plate recognition, allowing customers to enter and exit the centre without the need of a ticket. Convenient Parents with Pram parking can also be found on most levels of the car parks.

Sunshine Plaza now also has five Parents Rooms, all equipped with microwaves and secure play areas. You can find three on the Ground Floor: in the Food Court; in the corridor between Ann’s Nails and Just Cuts; and near Big W, in the new mall. You’ll also find two on Level One: one in Myer near the cosmetics department and one in David Jones near the bedding department.

Let’s play!

Stuck for a place to meet for coffee, or just need to get out of the house and give the little ones somewhere safe to play? Sunshine Plaza now has several play spaces to take advantage of. Keep the kids entertained at the nautical themed kids play space on the retail bridge. You can also find a pop up play space in the new mall on ground level opposite Little Sparrow, which includes a maze, giant Connect 4 and interactive digital screen.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Sunshine Plaza without the paddle boats! These fun rentals are available for hire on the river. BCC Cinemas also remains, screening the latest movies daily.

If that’s not enough, the much-anticipated High Ropes course is due to open later in the year. Spanning the river, it promises to be a challenge not for the fainthearted. For those that prefer to keep their feet on the ground, Timezone is also due to open later in the year, with plenty of arcade fun for all ages.

Let’s eat!

Open late every night, the Riverwalk Dining Precinct now offers over 10 food retailers to choose from, making it a great spot to enjoy
a family-friendly meal. The renovated food court has all the family favourites for a quick bite to eat, and you can also find a range of delicious new dining options on the new Cornmeal Promenade including Vietnamese at Nguyen Bros, Japanese at Motto Motto, Indian at Roti and Buns (the Roti Chicken Curry is a must!), wholefood options at Pineapple Express and café bites by the water at Caffe Cherry Beans. With more food outlets due to open later in the year, there
is something to suit everyone!
