$100K challenge to tackle domestic violence and help families

This May, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, local charity SunnyKids is launching its most ambitious fundraising campaign yet: The $100K Challenge.

Thanks to a generous pledge from a SunnyKids supporter, all eligible donations throughout May will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to a total of $100,000.

The goal? To raise a combined $200,000 in just 31 days to fund SunnyKids’ Transitional Housing Project. This project will provide vital support and safe accommodation for women and children escaping domestic and family violence.

“Every dollar raised through this campaign will have double the impact, giving vulnerable families a real chance to break the cycle of violence and rebuild their lives,” said Kathleen Hope, CEO of SunnyKids. “We know how critical safe, short-term housing is in times of crisis. This challenge is a rally cry to our community—because together, we can make lasting change.”

SunnyKids’ Transitional Housing Project offers more than just a roof over a family’s head. It delivers stability, support, and a pathway forward for those facing unimaginable hardship. This vital initiative would not be possible without the incredible generosity of Firefly Education. Their unwavering commitment to the community has fully funded the purchase of the land and the construction of the first three townhouses. Their support is helping to create safe, nurturing spaces where vulnerable families can begin to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Official campaign launch

The campaign officially launches on May 1 and runs through May 31. Matched donations apply to all general donations and eligible contributions, including funds raised through key community events such as:

  • Bella Venezia’s Domestic Violence Awareness Lunch
  • Wanderers & SunnyKids Inaugural Golf Day
  • She Sings – a community concert for change
  • Mother’s Day Gift Wrapping Stations
  • and more!

SunnyKids is calling on individuals, businesses, schools, and community groups to get behind the challenge by donating, sharing the message, or hosting a fundraiser. Even a $5 donation will be doubled, proving that small actions can create a big impact.

“This is more than just a fundraising campaign—it’s about bringing our community together to stand against domestic violence,” said Ms. Hope. “Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us get closer to our goal and closer to changing lives.”
