New Brisbane park opens at Kinma Valley, offering families a vibrant new community space

Southeast Queensland families have a brand-new Brisbane park to explore, with Stockland officially opening Glider Park — the first community park within the emerging Kinma Valley masterplanned community at Morayfield. The $3.5 million, one-hectare space marks a major milestone for the growing neighbourhood and is set to become a favourite destination for local families.

To celebrate, Stockland is hosting a free opening event on Saturday, 22 November, welcoming families to discover the imaginative play areas, shaded picnic spots, and cultural storytelling woven seamlessly through the park’s design. Visitors can enjoy live music, family activities, face painting, a traditional welcome and dance, and a sausage sizzle hosted by Carmichael College.

Stockland Senior Development Manager Dan Nay said Glider Park is just the beginning of what’s planned for Kinma Valley.

“For the hundreds of families preparing to settle in over the coming months, Glider Park is a welcoming first space to connect and feel part of the community,” Mr Nay said. “More than 30 per cent of Kinma Valley is dedicated to open space. This Brisbane park is the first of many proposed parks, green corridors, and natural areas that will shape the community’s lifestyle for years to come.”

Designed to celebrate the region’s natural landscape and cultural heritage, Glider Park features organic forms, natural materials and public art that honours Kabi Kabi Country. Families will find BBQ and picnic shelters, a half basketball court, a dry creek bed, a kick-about lawn, and expansive native plantings that create plenty of shaded green space — all welcome additions for parents seeking a versatile Brisbane park for outdoor play.

Every element of the new park aims to spark curiosity. Developed in collaboration with Urbis, Blaklash and First Nations artist Zartisha Davis, the space blends play with storytelling, ensuring children not only climb, slide and explore — but learn.

Senior Landscape Architect at Urbis, Rebecca Woodbridge, said the design was inspired by the sugar glider, a tiny nocturnal marsupial native to the region.

“The custom-built playground features a soaring slide and curving tower that lets children ‘glide’ like the creature itself,” Ms Woodbridge said. “The eucalypt-patterned softfall and sap-inspired climbing grips — some with tiny ‘insects’ inside — spark curiosity and imagination.”
